Watch Nvidia Launch A Living Room Out A Plane
…or did they? This is the message behind NVIDIA’s new promotional advert for their Shield Set-Top box. They are aiming to showcase the CG potential of NVIDIA hardware, and to do that they appeared to have dropped a living room, gamer, TV, stand and Shield device from the back of a plane. The onus for determining its authenticity is exactly what NVIDIA want the audience to do–effectively toying with our ability to determine the real from the CG:
As the world leader in visual computing, NVIDIA has the technical capabilities to simulate anything. Many of the graphics that we see in today’s films are created using NVIDIA GPUs. The same GPU architecture that powers SHIELD Android TV. So the question is: did we really just shoot a living room out the back of a plane?

In this new promotion, NVIDIA is giving away a free Shield Remote (which retails for around $49.99) alongside the set-top box. The new promotion means that for $199 you’ll get the Shield box, the controller and a remote. For a microconsole capable of 4K streaming of movies and series, it’s a pretty good deal.
