Would You Believe That 80% Of PS4 Owners Haven’t Played Uncharted?
Naughty Dog has revealed something from its research which may come as a big surprise to many Sony Pony citizens. It would appear that around 80% of PS4 owners have never played an Uncharted game before.
The dog who is naughty brought over its community strategist Eric Monacelli to speak to MCV about a few things. Monacelli admitted that the studio had high expectations for The Nathan Drake Collection, which is a remaster of the original three titles. The team hopes that it will be as successful as The Last of Us: Remastered.

“I do, personally, expect the Uncharted Collection to do as well as The Last of Us Remastered,” he said. “Company-wide, our studio loves it. They set the bar at [the studio porting the games to PS4] Bluepoint and did a really good job with everything – adding new features and making sure that everything looks good. So, yeah, our expectations are high for it. We hope it does quite well.”
“We did a lot of research and discovered that about 80 per cent of the people that own a PS4 have never played Uncharted, period. That was one of the reasons why we thought remastering it would be a good idea. The other reason is we decided we wanted to do it; especially when we got The Last of Us Remastered done, we thought ‘Oh man, this would be cool if we could go back’.”
It’s a pretty surprising discovery, but then again with a new generation comes a huge injection of fresh blood.
With regards to what Naughty Dog is going to do in the future, as we know the studio usually focuses on one game at a time. That game at the moment is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which is set for release early next year. There’ll also be DLC coming for the game after that.
MCV also pressed Monacelli on whether the rumours about The Last of Us 2 are true, and he said something fans may like.
“There’s been tons of ideas bandied around – everybody knows the rumour about The Last of Us 2,” he said. “There could potentially be – who knows? We could go back to Jak and Daxter 4 if it seems right, or there could be something else in the future on our horizon.”
At this point The Last of Us 2 is a pretty badly kept secret, especially since Nolan North let it slip back in June already.
