Let 20 Years Of PlayStation Nostalgia Wash Over You
Sony has hardly been quiet about the fact that 2015 marks the 20th birthday of PlayStation. Over the course of the year the company has approved and released numerous pieces of branded merchandise up to and including a sexy grey PS4 hearkening back to the original PlayStation. Yesterday, September 9, was the official 20th birthday of PlayStation.
Since the release of the original console Sony has changed dramatically, having gained and lost more than a few of its divisions but PlayStation remains and has helped shape the industry alongside Nintendo and Xbox. More importantly, the consoles have given us two decades’ worth of absolutely fantastic titles, memorable games that are ingrained in our childhoods and memories.

PlayStation has not been without its missteps, most notably on the handheld front and in the online space more recently but what a ride its been. The brand is only two years younger than I am and has been with me all my life. From our mini PS One to our slimline PS2 to our imported white PS3 and now our majestic dust trap of a PS4.
Get your nostalgia on with the above sizzle reel full of nostalgia, ads and too few polygons for David Cage’s liking. Even if you couldn’t care less about the history of PlayStation, it’s a treat to watch to see how the industry has come on since 1995. It’s just a pity that more time isn’t devoted to where PlayStation came from.
On the other hand it is quite nice for Sony to posit itself as forward-facing.
I have incredibly fond memories of playing the original Colin McRae games, Crash Bandicoot 3, Need for Speed titles and so much more in my youth before moving on to the likes of God of War, Uncharted, Journey, The Last of Us and so much more. It’s been a great run thus far.
Happy birthday, PlayStation.
