Kojima Is Officially Dead To Konami
Oh Konami, you have not only screwed the pooch, you’ve taken the pooch to dinner, paid for two tickets to an opera, rented a deluxe suite at Ceaser’s Palace and had a threesome with the pooch and a doorknob. Konami have lost most of its stock on a literal level and with gamers since their really misguided decision to go fully mobile and just giving a big fuck you to fans.
Their most ostentatious fuck up was with the rather messy split with Hideo Kojima, their star child and the reason why they’re even famous today. With the cancelling of Silent Hills and them rather publicly denouncing any future involvement with Kojima, it seems Konami will soon become a distant memory in the minds of gamers because seriously, fuck mobile.

Kojima and Konami are like badly divorcing parents at the moment with them doing spiteful and childish crap for no particular reason and we’re the kids that have to witness this.
The newest batch of spite comes to us in the form of MGS V: The Phantom Pain’s official box art. As you can see in the header image, Kojima’s name has been completely stripped away. Here’s the original for reference:
This is basically the stamp of the end of Konami and Kojima’s long relationship. It’s a minor aesthetic change, but the meaning behind it is real. All of the previous Metal Gears had the Hideo Kojima “seal of approval” on the box art and this one is missing it. End of an era I guess.
I do wonder what Kojima’s future looks like now that he has split from the rather idiotic publisher. Maybe we’ll see some revolutionary things from him again, assuming he has closed off all his famous franchises.
