Harley Quinn Co-Creator Has Some Comments About Her Suicide Squad Look
Harley Quinn is an extremely popular character in the Batman universe, as the Joker’s bizarre partner in crime. However she hasn’t quite had the decorated 75 year history like Batman and Joker, but was rather created not too long ago in comic world in 1992, by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series. She immediately became a fan favourite, and forms of media like Rocksteady’s Batman games only further cemented her as a star. Fun fact: did you know that the audio recordings of her in Batman: Arkham Asylum actually came from the comic “Mad Love” which depicts her and the Joker’s relationship in the Animated Series? Awesome, right?
Now earlier this week we got our first look at the entire cast of Suicide Squad, and while that was enough to ruffle some jammies, most people were dying to see Harley Quinn. I can’t imagine she disappointed!

It’s one thing what we think. It’s another what the co-creator of the character does! Polygon caught up with Harley Quin’s co-creater Bruce Timm to get his take on actress Margot Robbie’s look in Suicide Squad.
“It’s interesting,” Timm answered immediately. “It’s weird. Myself — being somebody who’s taken characters that pre-exist and putting my own spin on them in my own little universe — I’m very aware of how when a character that I necessarily created shows up in other media that they have to adapt it and do different things with it than I would do. So I’m very open to it to see what they’re going to do. I’m actually really excited. I just today, just before the show started, saw the first image of Harley Quinn from the Suicide Squad movie, and I thought ‘Woah. She looks actually pretty cute!’ I was actually kind of worried I thought ‘Oh, she’s going to look really, really bizarre and skanky’ but nah, she’s not too bad. So I’m often mistaken.
While I’m still not sure how I feel about Suicide Squad, the authentic look of the cast, Batman’s involvement and Jared Leto are getting me somewhat intrigued by it all. I just hope those tattoos on The Joker aren’t actually part of his look in the movie, and to that end I’m very much looking forward to a picture in full costume.
What do you think about the cast? About Harley Quinn? If you don’t know the actress, she was in The Wolf of Wall Street and she absolutely has the personality, looks and voice for the role. Time will tell whether she’s batshit crazy though!
