Surprise! Benedict Cumberbatch Has Been Cast As Doctor Strange
It’s been a busy week for for comic book and super-hero-movie fans alike with both Marvel and DC related casting announcements. To be honest, when the cast for Suicide Squad was released this week I was feeling quite meh about it. Not because I don’t like the actors (I’d watch anything with Will Smith in it, he’s the only reason I watched After Earth), but mainly because I haven’t read the comics. Nonetheless, I was excited about another DC baby being produced for me to feast my eyes on.
OK, that came our wrong. But moving on…
The previously rumoured casting choice for one of my favourite comic book characters has been confirmed today/last night. Yes, Benedict Cucumberpatch has been graced with the role of playing Doctor Strange. And I couldn’t be happier.

A lot of people are upset about the choice, and I have no idea why. He looks like Strange, he can act like Strange and he can talk like Strange. Want to know how I know that? Because he’s a wonderful actor worthy of this role. I’m pretty sure he can pull off an American accent if they went in that direction. Although, I wouldn’t mind a British Strange. Don’t know why.
“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” – Kevin Feige, Producer
I really couldn’t agree more, Mr Feige. However, it remains to be seen if the film and it’s actors can do justice to this great character. Hopefully Marvel blows us away like always.
