Sony Is Making Their Own Version Of DayZ, Called H1Z1
Sony Online Entertainment, the people who developed games such as Planetside 2 and DC Inverse, have officially revealed a new project they are planning to bring to PC. Introducing H1Z1, a new zombie MMO that sounds a lot like a game we’ve already played.
In H1Z1, players are forced to survive in a harsh wasteland of a world after a devastating virus has turned everyone into…well yes. Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley seemed a bit more enthusiastic about the theme than me.

“It’s a massively multiplayer game in which players fight for survival in a world where death is the only sure thing. The H1Z1 virus devastated mankind and left nothing but death and destruction in its wake and a world nearly empty of human life where the remnants of humanity are in a fight against extinction against those infected with the virus.”
It goes without saying that a few comparisons were drawn to already existing online titles, Addressing this, Smedley stated that H1Z1 is aiming to differentiate itself in a few ways, starting with different servers hosting different rules sets for players to experiment with. He then went on to say that the studio is extremely open to player development as well, and that ideas from testers and the community will be taken very seriously.
“We’ll be opening it up for Player Studio creations too so expect player-created items to make their way into the game. The design team is putting emphasis on “player ownership and building.”
H1Z1 has only been announced for PC as of today, but SOE has said that there will be plans for a PS4 launch once PC is out of the way. As it is with most of their MMO titles.
