Shouldn’t Developers Focus On New Games Rather Than “Definitive Editions”?
Something that has been bugging me for a while now is this insistent habit of developers to suddenly release all of their titles from the previous generation onto the current one, calling them “The Definitive Editions”
Now I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. A lot of people didn’t get to play these games when they were originally released, and these newer versions aren’t only a little bit cheaper (in some cases) but they’re also the best way to play. Aside from PS4 and Xbox One users not being able to turn of Tress Effects in Tomb Raider. Nasty hair that.

The problem lies with the amount of time spent on these project. I’m not entirely sure of the time and manpower required to rework these games visually, but I’m pretty sure it’s no small task. Surely that has an impact on future, new titles that the developer could be working on instead?
And who is really to blame here? Is it the publisher demanding a better version of a title already released so the profits can be milked further, or are developers just stalling on making something new?
I don’t mind the definitive edition of a classic game here and there, maybe released alongside the studios next big blockbuster. But when we’re hearing more about “redux’s” and “remasters” rather than new titles, or even new IP’s, then I start to worry about the focus of the industry currently?
