Peter Molyneux Calls Xbox One Kinect A “Joke”
Just because you are no longer tied to a company doesn’t mean you need to slander them. Nor does it mean you have to suddenly change your opinions. Do you remember back in 2010, or may it was 2011, when Peter Molyneux talked up Kinect? It was new tech at the time and he was very excited by the technology. So much so that he created Milo – still one of the best displays of what we can do with a Kinect.
He went so far as to liken Kinect to a PC mouse. Essentially, he said it would become an essential peripheral on consoles. Guess what, My Molyneux, it is now. Hypocrisy looks good on you.

Kinect is excatly what he predicted it would be, not that developers are treating it as such and now, three years later, Molyneux is calling the Kinect bundled with the Xbox One as “unnecessary” and a “joke.”
In fact, he said it would be unthinkable for Microsoft to not release an Xbox One without Kinect attached. Really? How does your opinion change so much in three years?
“I actually wish Kinect wasn’t a requirement,” Molyneux, who now runs his own indie studio 22Cans, told Edge. “It feels like an unnecessary add-on to me. Maybe it’s because we’re in England, and it doesn’t really use the TV stuff, but it feels more and more like a joke.”
Molyneux also said that the Kinect camera itself can be finicky.
“My son and I sit there saying random things at it, and it doesn’t work,” he said. “[Microsoft] could cost-reduce it [by removing Kinect]. I’m sure they’re going to release an Xbox One without Kinect. It would be unthinkable that they wouldn’t.”
I guess he either talked it up prematurely back in 2011 or he was simply doing Microsoft PR.
