Catch Pokemon In Real Life… On Your Phone
This is not an elaborate April Fool’s prank. You might think so after watching the above video where Google is looking to hire Pokemon trainers but it’s actually yet another awesome addition to Google Maps. They’ve already recreated Middle earth and if you ask for directions from The Shire to Mordor it will come up with “One does not simply walk into Mordor.”
This is different though, the Pokemon Challenge is embedded into Google Maps. All you have to do is update your Maps app on your iOS or Android device and you can start catching ’em all.

To start, all you have to do is click on the search bar, then hit “Press Start” right below it.
The you can roam around the world, in map form, and add Pokemon to your Pokedex as you encounter them. It’s hardly a game because the Pokemon don’t fight back and you have and endless supply of Pokeballs. That doesn’t stop it from being pretty damn cool. The winner will be invited to Google’s headquarters and “hired” on as the staff Pokemon Master. I don’t know what that means either. Probably something sexual.
Google has certainly put some effort into this so it would be interesting to see what happens come the April 2nd deadline.
It’s not shoddily done either, you’ll find grass types in parks, water types near lakes and so on. To give you a headstart, there should be something near Koeberg power station in Cape Town and there’s rumoured to be a Pikachu in Munich. Go go go.
