Amazon Gets Serious About Gaming, Hiring The Designers Of Portal And Far Cry 2
Earlier today we told you about Amazon’s entry into the gaming market with their streaming device, the Amazon Fire TV. While the device isn’t really aiming to compete directly with the likes of Sony and Microsoft, it does already seem like an answer to Apple TV and even the Ouya, providing smaller games for you to seamlessly play on your TV. That, and they already have an exclusive title.
It doesn’t seem like Amazon is content on stopping their either. They seem committed to building exclusive gaming experiences for the Fire, which is why they’ve hired to of the best game designers in the business.

Amazon has announced that Kim Swift, the designer of Portal, Portal 2 and Quantum Conundrum, as well as Clint Hocking, designer on Far Cry 2, have now joined the team. Swift and Hocking will apparently work on games to be released exclusively for the Fire TV, and with these two designer’s past achievements you can probably expect something we’d all want to play.
This sits in line with some business deals Amazon conducted in the past, when the retailer purchased Helix Games. The studio was behind the development of the Killer Instinct reboot, as well as the recent Strider release. It does seems like Amazon is already prepped to start creating games to push the Amazon Fire, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with in the next few months.
Will it maybe entice you to let the Amazon Fire TV become a lounge worthy device? I have this odd feeling this will soon become a household staple.
