Xbox Loses Yet Another Top Executive
Could someone possibly tell me what’s happening at Microsoft? Just the other day Xbox got a new President, after the previous one only served a tenure that lasted months. And now yesterday Xbox lost yet another top executive, namely corporate vice president Marc Whitten.
Microsoft shared the news late yesterday, with the Xbox division saying that after 14 years “the Xbox team is sad to share today that Marc Whitten, Chief Product Officer of Xbox, will be leaving the team to become Chief Product Officer of Sonos.”

Whitten released a statement to The Wire regarding his departure, saying that his Xbox team was in good hands.
“I have had the extreme pleasure over the last 14 years to work on the greatest product with the greatest team and for the greatest community. Xbox is so special because of the amazing team I’ve had the opportunity to work with and because our fans are the most incredible fans on the planet. It has been the highlight of my career to work on a product so loved. It’s incredibly tough to leave but I am confident the best days are ahead for Xbox fans, in the capable hands of a very talented team.”
With the Game Developers Conference happening throughout the week, Whitten was expected to host his usual “fireside chat” at the event. The event will now be hosted by Xbox Game Studios VP, Phil Spencer, as Whitten prepares to leave the company on March 21st.
Who is going to take his place? That’s unclear for the moment, but it seems like times really are changing over at Xbox.
