It Would Be Stupid To Not Make Assassin’s Creed Annual
Ubisoft knows that they can make bundles of money off of us with an annual Assassin’s Creed release. Yes, many are becoming disillusioned and wary but that doesn’t stop the series from being the publisher’s favourite cashcow.
Ubisoft’s VP of creative Lionel Raynaud has a very interesting spin on that. Instead of saying they’d be stupid not to cash-in on this opportunity for money, he puts it to us that they’d be stupid to ignore fans’ need for an annual AC release.

That’s complete bullshit and he knows it. We don’t need our yearly fix of AC lest we go into withdrawal. All we want is a steady stream of Assassin’s Creed titles that hold the quality of the earliest games in the series.
I’ve been here since the beginning so I personally find that statement rather hilarious.
Speaking with Edge, Raynaud said that as long as fans want an Assassin’s Creed game, Ubisoft will provide one.
“We are able to offer people a new Assassin’s Creed every year because they want Assassin’s Creed every year,” Raynaud said. “As long as this is true we would be very stupid to not satisfy this need, but it puts a lot of pressure on us to create something that will never disappoint.
“It needs to keep the series core values and we need to really make sure that we have a good, high level understanding of what it is to be an Assassin. We have to make sure we always deliver a better feel and overall experience every time while still bringing something that they haven’t seen before that’s consistent with being an Assassin in the world we’ve created.”
I can guarantee that if you released a new game every two years then people would still be just as happy. possibly more so because now you’re not padding a trilogy out into 5 games nor are your saturating us too much AC.
A shot of tequila, to Alessandro, might be very appealing but if somebody kept feeding him shots without enough of a break in between he’d probably die.
While Raynaud wouldn’t comment on the rumored Assassin’s Creed Comet for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, he confirmed that Ubisoft plans to continue its support of last-gen consoles “this year and probably the years after.”
“We want to be able to provide games to people who are playing on these consoles,” he said.
While Unity is set to be the AC title for PS4, PC and Xbox One, Comet is rumoured to be the title for PS3 and Xbox 360 which lets players take control of a Templar.
Back to Raynaud, this need he speaks of doesn’t exist. It’s as real as the First Civilisation. Ubisoft created a perceived demand that doesn’t really exist. Sure, people get excited every year for this assassin or that creed but if you gave us a bit more time in between each game we’d probably get more excited when Ubisoft revealed a new AC title.
