Spoiler Alert, An Indie Platformer In Reverse
In the most recent indie news, Denmark based indie studio Megafuzz has joined forces with YoYo Games to bring their new game Spoiler Alert to mobile and PC platforms, across the spectrum. Spoiler Alert was born from a small Danish gamejam, which Megafuzz pushed into full game development. The interesting thing about Spoiler Alert is that the game is already beaten, and that although it appears to be similar to platformers you’ve played before Megafuzz bring in a whole fresh approach. All of the platforming is done in reverse.
The game is already beaten, you have defeated the end boss, saved the princess and collected all the coins you can. The simple mechanic of the game is that you have to “uncomplete” all of your previous actions, starting from the last level of the game to the first level. Megafuzz say:
- You’ll Be Able To Play (Expensive) PS2 Games On Your PS4 Now | 2 months ago
- Jessica Jones Disempowers Its Male Characters And The Effect Is Refreshing | 2 months ago
- Hell Is 30 000 Deathclaws Tearing Through Boston And It’s Glorious | 2 months ago
- Sony Santa Monica Is Teasing Something Truly Strange | 2 months ago
You must uncollect the coins, revive the enemies and avoid nasty time paradoxes. In other words, you must uncomplete the game by playing it backwards.
Aesthetically the game is visually stunning with a classic 2D style, hand drawn by Megafuzz, which suits the very classic nature of the game. Spoiler Alert takes the core mechanics of classic platformers and literally puts them into reverse, which is quite refreshing. Megafuzz promises that the game will have four unique worlds to explore. The gameplay design will follow the use of a one-button design which whilst easy to learn, is quite difficult to fully master. Spoiler Alert is designed with epic boss fights, upgrades and many different types of enemies which should also help to keep the game from becoming stale. Spoiler Alert is due for release some time in Q1 2014.
