We Could Play Watch Dogs Before Its Release
The talking point for most of last week wasn’t the fact that Watch Dogs had finally received a release date, but rather how different and, in some cases, worse the new Ubisoft IP was looking. While we might still have to wait a few long weeks to actually find out for ourselves, a leaked Xbox One beta might allow a select few to try it out soon.
The now removed listing on the Xbox One store suggested that Watch Dogs might receive a beta for it’s multiplayer component, which allows up to eight people to freely roam the streets of near future Chicago. One quick user managed to grab a screenshot of the beta before it was pulled by Ubisoft, leading to a lot of chatter about whether it will be made public anytime soon.

It’s not entirely impossible, especially with Ubisoft accustomed to testing new multiplayer experiences via a beta first. They did it with Assassin’s Creed when online multiplayer was first introduced, so it’s not such a stretch to suggest the same thing here. Alternatively, the listing could be a result of internal testing, allowing employees to download the game on their Xbox One and work on it.
That’s probably the most likely scenario, but that doesn’t stop us from hoping. Considering all the negative feedback the game was getting last week, it could work in Ubisoft’s favour to give them a taste of something incredible.
