Hearthstone Has Its Beta Sticker Peeled Off
Blizzard seems to have taken a page out of Valve’s “How to release a free to play title” book and sneakily peeled out the beta sticker on Hearthstone, officially announcing the game’s release yesterday after a few months in beta.
Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime announced the release in a oddly humorous press release, saying that he was glad the release didn’t bring about the end of the world.

“We saw some reports early on that Hearthstone might destroy the planet,” Morhaime said, referencing a preview for the game that suggested it was so addictive that the world might end as a result. “We’re pleased to see that the game has been released and the planet is still here…though we apologize for all the lost productivity.”
Damn right you should apologise for creating such an incredibly deep, engrossing and time consuming game that I never want to stop play. Darn you Blizzard!
Anyone can now download the title from the BAttle.Net client and join in on the card collecting fun on both Windows and Mac. Blizzard has stated numerous times that an iOS version is in the works, which will be followed by Windows 8 Phone and Android versions as well. Just in case you weren’t unproductive enough already. Or you dream of [playing Hearthstone on the can. Either or.
Along with the release, Blizzard also updated the game with several bug fixes and tweaks to ranked play after receiving fan feedback. It seems like this supported trend will continue, and so it should, considering Hearthstone is easily one of the best titles the studio has released in recent memory.
