EA Wants To Make Star Wars More Like Batman
What is it these days with everybody wanting to emulate Batman? Do you want to be a brooding orphan with a psychotic son and murderous father in-law? If it comes with all the perks of being Batman then yeah, we kind of do but that’s besides the point. A lot of movies seem to be trying to run with the Nolan aesthetic of dark and gritty. EA isn’t about to do that with Star Wars. Instead, they’re looking to ape Warner Bros. Interactive’s handling of the Batman IP.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson has emphasised that the essential thing when handling a beloved franchise such as Star wars is retaining its spirit and what fans love about it.

“What Warner Bros. did with Batman was take the core roots of that IP and manifest that inside the walls of Gotham City and delivered an interactive experience that had real ties to what you would see in the films and what you had read in the comics, while having its own life because it could provide such deep and more immersive storylines,” Wilson told Fortune. “When we look at the Star Wars properties that’s how we’re looking at it.”
EA has a 10 year deal with Disney to produce games based on the Star Wars IP and none of those will apparently be based on the movies or any upcoming movies.
Currently we have Battlefront 3 to look forward to but you can bet that a number of other EA subsidiary developers are working on something Star Wars related as well.
After reading all of that, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea to take a cue from Batman, does it?At least not in this context. In fact, it seems like the right direction to go in.
