Disney Just Bought Some Of Your Favourite YouTubers
Disney just seems to be splashing down massive amount of cash everywhere you look. LusasArts a year or so ago, and now the media powerhouse has purchased Marker Studios. In case you don’t know what that is, think about Epic Rap Battles of History…and PewDiePie.
Maker Studios doesn’t directly own all these YouTube channels, but rather owns Polaris. Polaris is a name most YouTubers should be more familiar with, as it is easily one of the largest companies on the public video service. PewPiePie and Total Biscuit are just two of the names that Polaris manages and owns, which effectively puts them under Disney’s control now as well.

Other notable names include Angry Joe, Smooth McGroove, Markiplier, Jim Sterling and the popular Game Grumps channel with animator Arin “Egoraptor” Hanson.
Now one might think that this would affect the credibility of some of the most subscribed to channels on YouTube, and it would be a fair assumption. If you’re owned by a company that makes videogames, whose to say they won’t try and influence your views? Total Biscuit has already taken to Twitter to express his views on the purchase, and whether it will affect his video content.
Yup, Disney now owns Maker so also owns Polaris. No idea what this means for us, but I'll make the content I want to make or go elsewhere.

It’s great to hear, and I hope some of the other big names at Polaris do the same. Because right now, being owned by Disney could bring all their opinions into doubt, even if they promise that they won’t interfere.
Oh, and if you were wondering, Disney paid in the region of $500 million for Makers Studios and Polaris. Get a real job indeed.
