Assassin’s Creed: Unity Confirmed, And It Looks Stunning
Last week Kotaku managed to get their hands on some leaked screenshots from this year’s Assassin’s Creed entry, supposedly titled Unity. They may have forced Ubisoft’s hand with the report, as only a day later the publisher decided to formally announce Assassin’s Creed: Unity, blaming Abstergo for the leak.
Oh Ubisoft, aren’t you just so funny.

The reveal confirmed most of the details leaked last week as well. Unity will take place during the French Revolution, making a new historical era for us to kill things in. Unity will also be exclusive to next-gen consoles, namely the PS4, Xbox One and PC, as revealed at the end of the trailer. Not surprising at all after you see just how gorgeous the new engine looks, and a pretty great move by Ubisoft to relieve the burden of cross-gen development on their studios.
Yes Watch Dogs, I’m looking at you.
Although there was no confirmation as to the protagonist’s name, there was another rumour that surfaced shortly after the reveal, suggesting that Ubisoft could try out a new “Single city, multiple era” system, where players will be able to roam around Paris, although during different time periods. It would be a bold, and rather interesting, idea to see pulled off, but I wouldn’t put money on it just yet.
Ubisoft is expected to reveal another Assassin’s Creed title for Xbox 360 and PS3 (maybe the Wii U) and it will be interesting to see how they manage to bridge the story, if that is their intention. Also, thank goodness we aren’t going by numbers anymore. It was getting devilishly confusing.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be out later this year. Presumably with cake for the peasants.
