Xbox One Twitch Streaming Arriving In March As “Full Next-Gen Service”
Twitch streaming functionality has so far been delayed on Xbox one, but today we’ve found out that it will arrive on March 11 as part of a system update. That date is just in time for Titanfall too.
Microsoft wants all the Titanfall Twitch activity, it would appear.

Twitch co-founder and CEO Emmett Shear said to ABC News: “It’s exciting because we’ve never had the ability to broadcast from a console like this with such a deep level of integration.
“The concept of being able to join a broadcasters’ party is really cool, and it’s another step in the direction of interacting more closely with broadcasters.”
The Twitch application will support chat functionality and allow players to broadcast themselves and their games from their living rooms with the Xbox One’s camera-based Kinect device. Or Kinect 2.0 if you’re overly technical.
Also in the interview, Microsoft’s vice president of marketing and strategy Yusuf Mehdi, explained why the Twitch streaming service is launching at a much later point in time than the popular PS4 offering, which came with Sony’s black box back in November last year.
Mehdi responded that the Twitch application on PS4 was developed by Sony and serves only as a viewing portal. However, it does not allow people to connect and interact.
“That’s a very certain type of experience,” Mehdi said. “For us, we thought that was too limiting for what our fans would want. Our fans really want the full next-gen service, so that’s why we decided to take our time, do it right and have it come out in this fashion.
“This will open up the social aspect of Xbox One in a new way,” he continued. “The community of Twitch is huge, and this allows us to type into that, and frankly do something that’s never been done before on consoles. You’ll be able to broadcast to any device and consume anyone’s broadcast from any device. It’s a console experience unique to the Xbox One.”
The cynic in me says Twitch was aimed to release with Titanfall for all the exposure to that game in the universe. Then again that’s just my conjecture.
March’s Xbox One system update is expected to introduce easier access to the friends list, which “will be front and centre on the homepage of the Friends app”. Party chat will be turned on by default, and an “Invite friends to game” option will be added alongside a “Recent Players” section.
In other related news, on Monday Microsoft claimed that it will fix a major technical fault with Xbox One’s TV integration in Europe and PAL regions “within weeks”. The fault causes a ‘juddering’ picture when watching PAL television broadcasts. However it has simply been said that it will be fixed in a system update this spring. That was confirmed by Xbox UK’s Harvey Eagle, who spoke to CVG.
