Wolf’s Wicked Words: An Observation Of “Current” Generation Behaviour
In times like these I regularly remind myself of the simpler and less pessimistic era in gaming. Ignorance is bliss and coupled with the fact that I was much younger and even more absent minded than I am today, I like to think that gaming was more about the games in that time and less about the narcissistic attention-seeking schmucks playing the games.
First of all, I am and always have been glad that freedom of speech exists, but I regret that the sense of merriment within me shrinks with each passing day I read about what the outspoken gaming idiots of the internet write and say. Freedom of speech is great; first of all, you have so many ideas to draw from and improve, but among the fluffy clouds of cotton candy in the sky, we also have the inevitable fecal rain caused by the once dark clouds of faultfinding.

Since the release of both the Xbox One (not yet in this country) and PlayStation 4 and even before their release, I have tried my best to keep away from news related to both these consoles and the accusations and so-called faults flung back and forth to one another. Many may dismiss my observations because I do not own a “current” generation console and am obviously jealous of those that do. I am happy for those that own one or even both of these consoles, but someone out there reading this must be able to acknowledge the sheer amount of ridiculousness surrounding the consoles being slammed back and forth by the gamers themselves.
I do believe that this should ideally be a point in time to take on the persona of a duck and let all of this slide off our backs like water, but I am afraid not acknowledging this is not going to help anyone in the long run.
Personally, I have no idea where, why or how the trend started where gamers are able to openly hate the other gamers’ chosen platform and belittle each other despite them having not ever operated or even played on the other “inferior” console. This is a common occurrence and nothing worthwhile to bat an eye at, but something somewhere is very clearly wrong. This is not something I am able to answer, but it most certainly is something I am able to turn attention to and ask you, the gamers, what on Earth is your problem? Your so called “hobby” is based on the idea of fun, so pardon me for not understanding your hatred towards a fellow gamer. To me, this reeks of self-employed classism and nothing else. The respected systems have their exclusive titles and hardware differences, but that in itself is nothing new — it has always been like that. I ask again, why?
Is this a case of jealousy towards the other system? Do the gamers see this as some sort of competition or a just cause to make them feel better about their owned system, or is it maybe just a case of the human race gradually making progress towards their full potential of being insensitive and uncaring dolts?
As much as I would like to provide a solution to this dilemma I am only able to urge all of you to put some thought into it before you hit send after you’ve typed out an extensive hate-filled comment. (I do acknowledge that I was insensitive in this article myself, but why not make an effort to fight fire with fire? I will resort to a dandy bucket filled with oxidized water next time.)
