This Video Game Studio Was Bought By…Amazon?
We’ve heard rumours for a long time now about Amazon’s apparent interest in creating their own dedicated console, and now the online retail giant may have just put their first foot through the door with the acquisition of a video game studio.
According to a report on TechCrunh, Amazon has purchased Double Helix Studios, the people behind Xbox One’s Killer Instinct and the upcoming Strider reboot.

This isn’t the first time Amazon has messed with video game publishing before, but all other previous attempts have been fairly light in comparison to a deal like this. Either the retailer is now serious about becoming a mainstream publisher or it’s begin acquisitions of studios that could possibly create first-party titles for their rumoured console. The latter seems to make a bit more sense to me.
Amazon responded to an article on Kotaku with this statement.
“Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.”
And that’s as vague an answer as you’d expect. We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes open for anymore Amazon gaming related news, which I’m sure will come sooner rather than later.
