Square Enix Talks Resolution And Lack Of Wii U Version For Murdered Soul Suspect
This is some good news for the day. Seeing as how resolution is a hot topic as far as the PS4 and Xbox One consoles are concerned, fans will be pleased to know that Murdered: Soul Suspect from Airtight Games and Square Enix will run at 1080p on both Sony and Microsoft’s boxes of gaming.
Representatives for Square Enix and Airtight Games have confirmed as much in a recent in a recent interview with GameSpot. They have also discussed the reasons for why there is no Wii U version of the game.

When talking about the decision to make both the PS4 and Xbox One versions output at 1080p, Airtight Games chief creative officer Matt Brunner simply said, “We’re trying to keep a consistency across all the platforms.”
Square Enix producer Naoto Sugiyama confirmed that both versions of the game output in 1080p and are not upscaled to the higher resolution, which means the game will be native. I doubt the same will apply to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, however, and it’s more likely that they will be at 720p. Nothing has been confirmed yet though.
GameSpot also asked Brunner why Murdered would not be getting a Wii U release. Brunner explained that the best Wii U games are those that are actually designed from the ground up for the system.
“In all honesty, all the Wii U games I’ve ever played, the only good ones are the ones that are made specifically for [the Wii U]. And this just doesn’t fit,” Brunner said.
I find myself agreeing with the man. For me, since the Wii U’s initial announcement I was saying that these kinds of triple A games just don’t fit the system, or Nintendo’s usual strategy and market.
I guess Square Enix also has to consider that the Wii U has a pretty small user-base when compared to consoles and PC. By comparison, the Wii U has sold 5.86 million units as of December 31, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 boast a combined total of over 160 million units to date, and the Xbox One and PS4 are bragging 8.3 million consoles after just a few months. And those two install bases will only continue to grow.
Murdered will be out in June for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
