Hawken Is Moving To Steam, But Can Steam Help It?
As soon as Hawken footage went live, everyone was seemingly up in arms about the game. There was so much excitement. As time progressed, that excitement seemed to have died down–just a bit. When the game launched in beta, a bout of excitement ensued once again. However, apart from that, no-one was as Hawken-mad as they were when it was first revealed.
And this could potentially be due to the fact that Adhesive Games launched the game as a standalone. There was no Steam requirement, and Steam practically owns the PC market. That means that they may have missed a big chunk of gamers.

However, this is about to change. The free-to-play mech game is going to make its way to Steam. To cater for this move, new player accounts cannot be created in Hawken, whereby existing players are being moved to Steam. In about a weeks’ time, Hawken will be available in Steam’s Store. And new players will be able to engage with the game.
No data will be lost, nor will the paid DLC that users bought. Yep, the game is free however DLC is paid-for.
I personally feel that the move to Steam is huge for Hawken, and with how quickly things go viral through Steam, they might find the traction that they have been looking for. Thousands of players will now have easy access to a great free-to-play mech game. I think, a great move, no doubt.
