Microsoft Is Paying People To Hand In Their PS3 Consoles
It’s not odd to hear about retailers offering in-store credit for hardware trade-ins, especially abroad in the United States. It isn’t even weird to hear about Microsoft offering the same for Xbox 360 consoles. What is weird however is news that Microsoft is offering $100 off the purchase of an Xbox One if customers trade-in their PS3 consoles.
An advert supposedly sent out by Microsoft confirms the deal, which would make the price of getting an Xbox One the same as a PS4. However this also means the customer in question would have to relinquish their PS3, which doesn’t sound like the best of deals to me.

Why? Because it’s a rip off. Firstly you could get nearly double trying to sell your PS3 privately. Ads on Craigslist point to some private sales exceeding $250 in same cases, meaning that this deal from Microsoft has already been outdone. Secondly, the idea of getting an Xbox One for the same price as a Ps4 at the expense of a PS3 doesn’t really scream get marketing to me. Why not just buy a PS4 in the first place then and save yourself an entire console?
It’s a sneaky and underhanded move by Microsoft to try and get rid of as many PS3 consoles from the market, considering they won’t be selling them back to the public. Less PS3’s mean less software sales for Sony, which could be quite harmful. Thankfully, with deals like this, they won’t have to worry too much. There are even a few of these floating about the internet this morning. Not from Sony of course.
I just really wonder what is going to happen to all the PS3’s traded in under this deal. Will Microsoft light a bonfire and make a day of it? Or as some sneaky commenter pointed out over at Gamespot, maybe Microsoft just really want PS3’s of their own instead of the Xbox One.
Not true yes, but still incredibly funny.
