CES 2014: Nvidia’s New Tegra Mobile Chip Is More Powerful Than PS3 And Xbox 360
Nvidia has been achieving an amazing level of visual quality with its Tegra mobile chipsets of late but during the company’s CES press conference the company’s CEO and co-founder Jen-Hsun Huang revealed Nvidia’s next-generation mobile processor and it’s impressive. Incredibly impressive.
The Tegra K1 is billed as the “first ever console-class mobile technology, enabling PC-class gaming technologies like DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.4 and tessellation.”

The processor is essentially superior to what you get in your PS3 or Xbox 360 and is capable of running Unreal Engine 4 which you can see above.
“We’ve brought mobile computing to the same level as desktop computing,” the exec said. “We’ve brought mobile computing to the same level as super computing. We’ve brought the heart of GeForce and the soul of Tesla to the Tegra family.”
Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney also said: “We can take absolutely anything that runs on PC or high-end console and run it on Tegra. I didn’t think that we’d be at this level on mobile for another 3-4 years.”
This is a huge leap forward for mobile gaming. Tegra K1 will come in 32-bit and 64-bit versions with the former arriving in a mere matter of months and the latter due to appear in devices in the second half of this year.
