Best Of The Gen: Community Picks
We’ve already served our judgement on the game’s that defined this generation but it’s been a long eight years packed with so many games that there was no way more than a small percentage of you would be in agreement with us. So we let you guys pick your own winners through a few polls.
It’s a stroke of genius from us really because now you can argue amongst each other rather than with us. I kid. We love all of you.

The response was good with a total of 22 people casting their votes in four different categories – Best Character, The Biggest Trendsetter, The Most Memorable Moment, Best Games of the Generation. Let’s take a look at the results, shall we?
Winner: Vaas (Far Cry 3)
With five nominees, this category saw Vaas taking a landslide win with 12/19 votes. Few can doubt just how powerful and captivating this character was. Of all the great things in Far Cry 3, Vaas is certainly near the top of that list purely for being such a unique and intriguing character.
He was up against stiff competition from the likes of GlaDOS (Portal), Wheatley (Portal 2) and Andrew Ryan (BioShock) but they only mustered two votes apiece.
The Biggest Trendsetter
Winner: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
We might have differing opinions but few, if any, can doubt just how influential the first Modern Warfare on the FPS genre. It was seminal, revolutionary in breathing fresh life into the then stale genre.
Modern Warfare took it with 9/16 votes with the closest runner-up being Portal way down on 5 votes.
The Most Memorable Moment
Winner: The Ending of BioShock: Infinite
This was perhaps the most closely contested category with BioShock: Infinite’s ending winning it on 5/20 votes. That’s hardly a resounding victory but everybody’s memory works a little differently so an overwhelming victory for any game would be rather worrying. BioShock Infinite certainly had one hell of a shocking ending that sucker punched us all.
It’s closest competition wasn’t too far behind with the sacrifice of Mordin Solus (Mass Effect 3), Would You Kindly (BioShock) and the final fight between Snake & Liquid (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) each garnering 3 votes for the most memorable moment of this generation.
The Best Games
This one was a little different because there simply could not be a definitive game of the generation. That would be like spitting on the Pope and declaring your love for cabbage as the one true greatest food item in existence. So we got clever about it and asked you to select the five games which you felt defined this past generation. We got a pleasant 22 votes in total and these were your five games which defined the generation.
Grand Theft Auto V
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Thanks for all your participation and it was certainly interesting to see how the votes tallied up. It’s been a great eight years and we hope you’re as eager to dive into the next generation as we are. Be sure to stay tuned for the results of our 2013 Community Awards where you voted for the best games of 2013.
