We Might Not Have To Wait Long For Those Next-Gen Price Cuts
If there’s one thing non first day adopters of next-gen consoles are hoping for in the next few months is a price cut that will make their patience all the more worth it. Well, according to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, those price cuts could come way sooner than current-gen cuts, even as early as the next few months.
Speaking during an earnings call yesterday, Kotick expressed his opinion on whether or not Sony and Microsoft will introduce console price cuts sooner rather than later, saying that he expects them to happen much faster than with current-gen. apparently this is due to greater manufacturing efficiency that could save both companies a lot of money.

“They’ve made more investments in the back office than ever before. Lots of efficiencies in manufacturing that could drive hardware prices down sooner in the cycle.”
Kotick refused to elaborate, but seemed positive about the future of next-generation consoles.
“There’s no indication from our perspective that you’re going to see anything other than a very successful 7-8 years.”
Looking back at the past, Sony cut the price of the PS3 8 months after launch, mainly because the launch price was so ludicrously high in comparison to the Xbox 360 which launch a year prior. Microsoft only saw fit to announce a price cut a long 20 months later.
Should Kotick be correct, I’d wager a price cut being announced around this time next year. No sooner. So if you’re going to be waiting, adding a few months to that estimate might not be a bad idea.
And I mean, it’s not like you’re missing out on any games yet anyway,. Have you seen the sad launch titles for both systems?
