Hold Up, Sony Really May Have Secretly Bought Back Crash Bandicoot
A few days ago we reported that a new Crash Bandicoot could be in the pipeline for next-gen consoles, marking the first appearance of the once Sony mascot in quite a few years. Activision has owned the license for Crash Bandicoot titles for years now, but a recent find from the PS4 launch trailer suggests Sony may have pulled off the most incredible secret deal ever.
Uncovered by Reddit editor cocobandicoot, who began compelling a lot of information supporting the idea that Sony has bought Crash Bandicoot back, a small image from the PS4 trailer might have teased the return of the mascot to the platform that made him famous. If you look at the image below, you’ll probably laugh at the really, really abstract hint Sony managed to throw into the PS4 trailer.

In the launch trailer, a sign bearing the silhouette of Crash Bandicoot lie directly below an arrow pointing to a golden diamond, which just so happens to be the logo for Sony Computer Entertainment.
A bit of a stretch, right?
What isn’t a stretch, however, is the fact that all information about Crash Bandicoot has been removed from the Activision website, and the official Crash Bandicoot page that had been hosted by the publisher has since been taken down too. Right now you’ll struggle to find much about Crash online, which could suggest the rights to his name are currently being transferred somewhere else.
That, coupled with Sony’s intentional or nostalgic nod to the character, make one pretty interesting rumour to definitely keep our eyes on. If this ends up being true, it will probably be one of the best under table deals in recent memory.
But hey, if it means that Naughty Dog get another shot at the game that made them famous, I’m not exactly complaining.
