Call Of Duty: Ghosts Is Looking To Beat GTA V In Sales
Call of Duty: Ghosts’ sales figures are nothing short of spectacular. The new Activision-published game released on Tuesday this week where a tremendous amount of units has been shipped to retailers.
Activision noted that approximately $1-billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts games has been sold to retailers worldwide. This essentially means that retailers have purchased that many copies, not that the consumer have spent that much. Actual sales figures to consumers has not yet been released.

To compare, Call of Duty: Black Ops II only reached $1-billion in sales after 15 days–although that included units sold to both retailers and consumers. Grand Theft Auto V reached $1-billion in consumer sales after three days–after making $800-million on the first day. Did Ghosts make that much in sales to consumers or only to retailers?
Furthermore, could Activision’s $1-billion boast include next-generation copies? If that is the case, sales may not be near that of GTA V for the current-generation launch.
Regardless, Activision expects to make money. Whether or not all of the copies are adopted is another story. And depending on the development costs of the game, a lot of profit could have been generated, making shareholders very happy–especially seeing as scenes from Modern Warfare 2 were reused.
Following the retail excitement, the publisher noted that Ghosts is ranking number one on Microsoft’s Xbox Live service.
“Ghosts is an amazing game which ushers in the next generation of Call of Duty,” commented Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing.
“This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title.”
Only after time will we be able to tell how many games were sold to consumers. However, until then, it seems that the next-generation sales are assumed to be nothing short of amazing.
