Just How Passionate Are You About Comics?
A few days ago the eGamer crew had a discussion about comics. Specifically, AG had just acquired a series of Deadpool comics and we were discussing just how awesome they were, and what we would give up for them if we were forced to.
I expressed a simple truth, that I would quite honestly prefer reading a comic to having sex — and I say this as someone who’s tried both — at which point Rudolf got quite upset, most likely because he was hoping that our sexual endeavours would continue…

That right there (excuse the dust) is a Deadpool figurine that I acquired at rAge 2013. I have no plans to remove it from the packaging, nor do I have any plans to actually ‘play’ with it. I simply wish to keep it there as my sort-of-monument to my adoration of the character Deadpool and the comics in which he is found. Of late, Deadpool has become quite a pop culture phenomenon, with a certain videogame releasing earlier this year and a movie somewhere in the works. At first, I was quite against this because I was a fan for so much longer than everyone else, but now I’m glad for it because it means there is so much of this cool paraphernalia that I get to partake in as a result.
Admittedly, my first love is gaming, and will always be gaming. Gordon Freeman and Half-Life are what I hold closest to my heart in the material world, and my love for gaming is strong. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have space in my life for other passions. And before you shout, “Get out of the house, you fucking recluse!” I’m only referring to material things. Of course there are other passions in the world, but whereas you might want to explore the world and hopefully not end up in a hostel in Eastern Europe, I enjoy reading books, watching series and playing games while listening to podcasts or music.
Specifically related to comics, though, what would you give up for it? And how far does your passion go? Do you have first editions that cost you more than your mortgage to acquire? Do you keep everything in the plastic to preserve the condition? Do you share your passions with those close to you? Let us know in the comments. By all means, post some pictures while you’re at it.
