Rockstar has sold nearly 29 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V since its release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17. And the PC version hasn’t even been confirmed yet.
Do you know what that means? Parent company Take Two confirms exactly what it means during its FYQ2 2014 financial results, revealing that GTA V has topped the lifetime console sales of predecessor Grand Theft Auto IV in under six weeks.
That. Is. Fucking. Ridiculous.
“We believe Grand Theft Auto V is the fastest-selling entertainment release in history,” said Take-Two, highlighting the fact that the game made over $800 million in retail sales during its first 24 hours on sale, and over $1 billion in three days.
According to the publisher, GTA V also went on to become “the biggest release ever” on the PlayStation Store, where it launched digitally on day one, and is the highest grossing day-one and week-one release on Xbox Live.
