Valve Could Reveal The Steam Box Next Week
It’s been a while since we’ve heard Valve talk about their rumoured console/PC hybrid, the Steam Box. In fact, it’s been a while since we’ve heard Valve talk about anything really, especially Half-Life 3. And while that announcement might still be number one on most people’s lists, the Steam Box is most certainly running in a close second. Thing is, we might not have to wait any longer to hear about it.
Speaking at LinuxCon yesterday, Valve’s Gabe Newell teased the announcement of the Steam Box next week, after calling Linux “the future of gaming”.

“Next week we’re going to be rolling out more information about how we get there and what are the hardware opportunities we see for bringing Linux into the living room.”
Now unless he’s referring to users who manage to hook up laptops to TV’s, I’m pretty sure Gabe is referencing the Steam Box. With this recent push of Valve’s to bring their platform to the living room, it would seem like a logical assumption, especially with Steam Big Picture mode having been thoroughly tested over the past few months.
Then again, it could just be regular old Valve getting us all excited for nothing again. Thing is, Newell did state last year that the Steam Box would release sometime this year, and with only three or so months left this would be a great time to get another console announcement in for the holiday season.
Could we see the Steam Box attempt to release alongside the PS4 and Xbox One? Now that would be bold.
