How Do You Describe Games To A Non-Gamer?
I’m sitting in a computer lab at UCT, thinking of a question to ask and this literally pops into my head. Let’s roll with it because my ideas never ever end in disaster. We’ve all done it at some point, tried to convey the awesomeness of a game to a non-gamer or tried to explain something about a game to a non-gamer. It’s tougher than you think. It may just be me but these explanations also have a tendency to make the game sound silly. In fact BioShock Infinite sounded straight up retarded when I attempted to relay it’s mind-blowing awesomeness to my then girlfriend… or maybe it was just a friend. I forget.
Anyway, maybe it was a significant other or possibly just a good friend, you might even be that guy yelling at random people on the street. This is why gamers have a bad rep. You could even be attempting to describe a game to a mother who just walked into the store you work at and wants to buy her kid a game for their birthday. Bonus points to you if you managed to describe the game to her in a manner that she’d approve of it whilst also making it sound like her son would enjoy it.

There are also so many reasons why you might be telling someone about the game. Perhaps they asked what you like about it or why it’s so good or they asked what you’re doing and you just took the opportunity to become a raving embodiment of word of mouth advertising.
I don’t have enough friends to come up with many plausible possibilities or permutations.
How do you describe games to a non-gamer? Maybe you’ve got a particular example to draw from or better yet an example where you describe an amazing game so poorly that it sounds worse than Sharknado.
Bonus question: On a scale of 1 to i, how excited are you for GTA V?
