Gamescom 2013: The Last Guardian To Be Re-Announced
I hope that didn’t get you too excited, because while the confirmation is worthy of relief, the question of when is still very much unanswered.
SCE Worldwide Studios president and lovable troll Shuhei Yoshida has told CVG that The Last Guardian, a game which has been trapped in development hell for years, is still in development, and the studio is looking for the right time to bring it back.

When asked about the game’s current status during an interview at Gamescom, Yoshida told CVG: “Yeah we are still making it… So we are still waiting for the right time to announce it. To re-announce it.”
And when asked the big question of whether the game will now be on PS4 instead of PS3, Yoshida replied: “So, we have decided not to discuss this yet.”
The Last Guardian was originally announced in 2009 and was planned for release in 2011, but according to then-Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda it got delayed in order “to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users”. Ueda left Sony at a later stage, but remains with The Last Guardian as a producer.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, that was translated by Polygon, Ueda spoke of The Last Guardian, saying:
“It’s under earnest development. However, SCE Japan Studio, who’s working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now.”
Puppeteer will be released on PS3 in September, and PS4 launch title Knack will be out in November.
