The Animus Is An Entertainment System In Assassin’s Creed IV
Assassin’s Creed III intrigued us with some fun modern day sections where we got to play as Desmond. It was a small taste of what being an assassin in present day would be like and offered a nice break from the history lesson. Granted it wasn’t entirely great and there were some cringe-worthy moments which I won’t spoil although it involves Desmond walking right through the front door of Abstergo – the front company for Templars – and beating his way around the building like some kind of podgy Rambo.
Assassin’s Creed IV also makes use of some present day environments. Four new screenshots show off Abstergo Entertainment – new division of the pharmaceutical company and the place of work for the character who will follow Edward Kenway on his pirating adventures. Yes, you’re effectively playing as one of the bad guys playing as the game’s protagonist.

The bulk of the game will take place around 1715, the golden age of pirating, but what story points Ubisoft will develop with Abstergo Entertainment remains to be seen. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for something interesting that ties into whatever it is Edward is doing. Basically exactly what we’ve gotten from other AC games.
