Oculus VR Grabs Another id Developer
Earlier this week something rather incredible happened. John Carmack, famous id Director and father of the first-person shooting genre, joined Oculus VR, the company behind the revolutionary virtual gaming device, the Oculus Rift. Carmack has been a supporter of the device for a long time now, so seeing him become the Chief Technology Officer of the company aiming to bring about a change in the way we all play games is certainly exciting.
And now, Oculus has acquired another prominent id Software developer, namely Matt Hooper. Hooper will join Oculus VR as their new Director of Development, meaning that not only does the company have some expert engineers behind them, they now have two people with ample and extensive game development backgrounds. It’s becoming more of a win win situation for both Oculus and us as consumers.

“We are thrilled to have Matt Hooper join the Oculus VR team as our Director of Development. Hooper will be working out of the Dallas, TX office. He’s a top talent who had been out of id for a few months and ended up being a great fit for the Oculus team. We’re looking for more all-stars!”
Both Hooper and Carmack are still working at id Software at some capacity, with their involvement on the studio’s long running Doom 4 project still remaining rather important.
Still though, this is even more awesome news for Oculus VR, and especially for the Oculus Rift. I’m smelling something truly incredible coming our way, and I can’t wait to see the impact it has on the way we all game.
