Gran Turismo 6 On PS3 Instead Of PS4? And What About The Vita?

Anyone who loves the Gran Turismo series (including that fifth installment) would naturally be pleased to know that Gran Turismo 6 is on its way to PlayStation 3 this year. Although the common question on everyone’s minds is: why not a PS4 version? It seemed only logical.
Well, back in May Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Polyphony Digital does have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for now the focus is on the PS3 version.

Fast forward to the present day, and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) boss Jim Ryan is discussing the matter once again in an interview with GTPlanet.
Ryan speaks about Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3 instead of PlayStation 4, the studio’s plans to support the game after its release and its general future.
Ryan first touched on releasing Gran Turismo 6 during the launch period of the PS4, and if it would result in any issues.
“While we recognize the issue and it’s definitely one that needs to be looked at carefully, we’re not concerned about it,” said Ryan.
He referred to the PS3’s large 70+ million user base for launching on the PS3, and cited comparisons between Gran Turismo 1 and 2 on PS1 and the content gap between the two.
Ryan also spoke of DLC for GT6, saying, “I think that we very much cut our teeth on DLC with GT5, and I think there’s a real desire to make a quantum leap with GT6. Plans are not yet disclosed so I can’t talk in detail about what they are but there is a real desire to make a step change and take it to a whole different level.”
The executive was also asked about the rather neglected PlayStation Vita, which hasn’t yet received a Gran Turismo game. Ryan stated, “There is nothing to report just yet, but we look at all our platforms and love all our children equally, ha!”
Well, while I’m not convinced the Vita will be getting any love soon, there does exist the fact that if Gran Turismo 6 releases on PS4, the Vita will be able to use remote play with it.
