Gamescom 2013: Fable Legends Announced For Xbox One
Microsoft and Lionhead Studios announced that a new Fable game will be coming to the Xbox One, and is called Fable Legends. Director David Eckelberry announced the game and says that although it’s not Fable 4, it is still a main entry in the series regardless.
The game is set during Albion’s age of heroes, which is 400 years before the events of the first game in the series. The game is designed as a 4 player co-op where you are cast as a number of different heroes, along with your friends. Each hero has different skills and talents from knights, to wizards and barbarians.

The trailer above shows off Fable’s version of Prince Charming whipping around a rapier, and is joined by an ice-wielding magician, a female warrior with a big sword, a crossbow wielding archer, all of whom can be controlled by different players. The game will have you venturing into the wilds with other players and take on numerous monsters, as you compete and co-operate with other players. The fun thing is that one of other players, joining your game may be cast as the villain who can view the map from a top-down perspective and place enemies, traps, and other challenges for players. As you become a better villain in the game, you gain experience points and can buy better enemy unites and such.
The game is designed around five people playing at once, and should you play alone the game will use AI for other roles. All of the different heroes fulfill different roles from tanks to support characters, and you will have to pick according to your preferences and tastes. The Prince Charming character plays in classic Fable style, the archer is played with an over-the-shoulder third-person shooter perspective. The warrior woman plays as the tank of the group, and the magician known as Winter is a support character who uses freeze spells to stop enemies and shatter others in her path. This is a class system which is very reminiscent of the MMO genre.
But Fable Legends still plays and looks significantly different from games within that genre. That said, the game will be quest-based rather than fully open world. There is hub city called Brightlodge where you can occupy yourself with classic Fable activities such as smithing and pie-making. Once you select a quest, you are sent out into the game’s world.
It is evident that the game is still funny with great storytelling and plenty of potential. The game looks stellar which has much to do with Unreal Engine 4, which is powering the game. This is definitely an Xbox One title you should be on the look out for. Fable Legends will take advantage of the Xbox One’s cloud capabilities and will only be an online experience. There is no release date as of yet, and it is clearly not a launch title.
