Gamescom 2013: Assassin’s Creed IV Actually Has Stealth
Assassin’s Creed III had another name here in the eGamer office – Warrior’s Creed. It was a game that ditched all the finesse, tactical stealth and intelligence that you normally associate with a trained assassins in favour of a heavy-handed protagonist who lobbed tomahawks first and asked questions later.
Remember back in the first Assassin’s Creed where combat was a minor part of the game and the key focus was on remaining undetected and gathering intel on your target to find the optimal way in which to assassinate. Sure there wasn’t much chose as in Hitman games for example but it did a good job of making you feel like an assassin.

The series lost that and now it seems that with a game revolving around pirates, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is bringing some legitimate attempts at stealth to the franchise. Gamescom might be done and dusted but here is the game’s trailer for the expo nonetheless. Why UBisoft didn’t release this earlier is anyone’s guess.
There seems to be an aggressive form of stealth at play and even disguises. Hopefully this pans out to offer more than the unchallenging combat recent entries in the series have had.
Also, I’m really liking the choice of music for these AC IV trailers.
