World Of Warcraft May Have Microtransactions Soon
World of Warcraft, the MMORPG that still manages to draw in millions and millions of users each month, is without a doubt the most successful MMO of our time, for better or worse. Blizzard’s MMO title has been the main competitor to those trying to make a dent in its subscription numbers, only to see many of them fall into the pit of free-to-play. Other, such as Guild Wars 2, take a different approach and offer no subscription fee at all, and it’s no surprise that it’s now the biggest competitor to WoW. One thing Guild Wars 2 does have, however, are microtransactions, and Blizzard could be aiming to introduce them to Azeroth soon.
Blizzard community manager Zarhym explained in a post that no decisions have been made yet regarding microtransactions, however some regions could have the system implemented in the near future.

“We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game. As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses.”
This post was a response to a quary made by a player who stumbled upon an item on the Public Test Realm for a future patch that grants a “100% XP Buff” from both killing monsters and completing quests and is available through an “In Game Store”.
It’s not yet confirmed by Blizzard, and even if it is implemented on certain regions will be affected, but is this a fair move? World of Warcraft players already pay a monthly subscription, so are microtransaction for possible faster levelling up buffs really fair to those who have put hours and hours into their characters?
I think someone is getting a little greedy, don’t you?
