The Light Bar On The DualShock 4 Controller Can’t Be Switched Off
In short, players will be unable to disable the glowing light bar on top of the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller. If you have no idea what it is, the picture up above explains it all.
This is according to Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida, who responded to a question on Twitter and revealed that the light bar can’t be switched off.

The light bar is used with the PlayStation Camera to detect motion controls, but it can also be changed colour depending on what the developer of any game decides. For instance, the bar changes colour in Killzone: Shadow Fall depending on your health.
However, it’s unclear whether developers will be able to switch it off or turn it into some neutral mode.
This is relevant for a few reasons. For one, having a glowing light may be a minor issue when immersed in horror games, if you’re like me and you play in complete darkness. Secondly, depending on your home setup, it may be a minor issue to see the light bar reflecting off your TV screen. Lastly, there’s no word on how the light bar will affect the battery drain of the controller, if at all.
Of course, the above issues don’t sound like deal breakers or harsh, but to me options are always important, and I’m not sure why the light doesn’t have a neutral or off mode, since it doesn’t seem to be of critical importance with regards to functionality. I could be wrong though.
