The Creators Of Journey Could Be Working On A Kinect Title
I love Journey, and I think most readers here know that. It was our Game of the Year winner last year, and is personally one of my favourite games of all time. Developers thatgamecompany have strived for artistic excellence in all of their titles, with Journey being the pinnacle in recent years, so it’s no surprise that fans wait with baited breath to see what’s coming next. And if the latest comment from studio president Jenova Chen is to be taken literally, we could be looking at a Kinect title.
After Journey was completed, thatgamecomapny fulfilled a three game contract with Sony, allowing them to take their experiences to other platforms. The studio has revealed that they are working on something new, which will feature multiplayer yet again, but has been coy to reveal anything else. In an interview with the Telegraph, Chen had this to say.

“A while back someone was asking me what I was looking for and I said ‘I wanted to have an input device that captures the player’s facial expressions and gestures and fingers’ I think the Kinect 2 is finally there.”
So could thtatgamecompany’s next title be an Xbox One exclusive? It would certainly be a huge shift after working with Sony for three titles that strived on PSN. It’s a bit hard to say at this point, because even Chen knows that this new title is a few years away from being released.
“It’s been almost a year now [since Journey] and we are still in a very pre, pre-production mode. It’s always been the pattern of thatgamecompany that we spent 75 per cent of time doing R&D and a smaller portion of time on production. When we go for a particular goal we have to do a lot of trial and error. It can feel like you are reaching out in the fog trying to find something.”
Chen went on to explain that the goal of thatgamecompany’s titles is to bring people together, and that the studio really is trying to nail that home with this new title. If anyone can create a Kinect title worth getting excited for, and most probably produce one that gamers actually want to play, it’s this company.
