Sony Cancels Discounted Beyond: Two Souls Pre-Orders
Sometimes, technology just likes to fuck up and make a mockery out of your day. For the folks over at Razer, this happened a few months back, when a glitch on their USA Store page allowed customers to get up to 90% off all their products, including their flagship gaming laptop the Razer Blade. It wasn’t a great day for the company as thousands flocked to grab a deal, which is what Sony has now experienced with Beyond: Two Souls.
During an update to the Sony Online Store, Beyond: Two Souls went from costing $59.99 to a very low $34.99, meaning sharp customers could grab the Quantic Dream title for nearly half the price. And, as you’d expect, everyone and their two grandmothers took advantage of this deal, leaving Sony in a bit of a difficult situation. Sony sent out an email to all those who purchased the discounted title, saying the listing was an error, and informed them that they would be cancelling the order.

Wait, usually when a company stuffs up like this they honour it, right? I mean Razer honoured all of those orders made with a 90% off coupon, which was sure to net them a huge loss but also a ton of respect from customers. Sony, in an attempt to salvage the situation, cancelled all the discounted pre-orders and offered customers a $5 gift card for the Online Store. In addition to that, Beyond was changed back to its original asking price.
Should Sony have honoured their mistake and let customers net the game for nearly half the price? It’s a tough question to answer, but with so many other companies honouring their mistakes, it’s a bit of a shit move by Sony in the end.
Then again, what do you expect from a company that is really struggling to keep above water lately.
