Xbox One Reclaims Top Spot On Amazon Bestselling Chart
Yesterday was a rather big day. Just the night before, Microsoft pulled a complete 180 in terms of their online and restrictive policies with regards to the Xbox One, removing all forms of DRM and region locking from the next-gen console. Hours later, the Xbox One claims the top spot on the Amazon charts in a region that Microsoft has dominated with the Xbox 360. Coincidence?
Depends on how you see it really. The Xbox One is currently sitting at number one on the Amazon bestselling chart for videogames and related hardware. This, of course, is from Amazon US, and it’s no secret that the US is without a doubt Microsoft’s biggest market, especially after claiming a majority share in the region. This is good news for Microsoft, who I’m sure we’re worried that their top selling region was not even pre-ordering their DRM restricted console.

You can also look at the chart and say “hey, but there’s only one Xbox package and five different PS4 bundles, how’s that fair?” And you know what, you’d be completely right. The PS4 currently has five individual bundles on offer on Amazon, meaning that the collective sales for the consoles are split between those five while all the Xbox One sales are tallied under their single package. This definitely plays a role in the Xbox One’s position on the chart.
It should be noted as well that the Xbox One was at the top of the charts before E3 as well, packing a sharp nosedive after the first day of conferences. Microsoft then reclaimed the number one spot after announcing the removal of their DRM systems.
So it really does look like people voted with their wallets and Microsoft listened to that. I’m sure it was a resounding wake up call.
