Ubisoft Is Considering A New Prince Of Persia, Beyond Good & Evil 2, Far Cry 4
Ubisoft’s E3 press conference was as attention deficit as a toddler with a lazy eye. Never looking in one direction for more than two seconds. It wasn’t a bad conference by any means, just quite varied and at times random. One critique was the apparent teasing of Beyond Good & Evil 2 only for it to turn out to be Trials Fusion. Okay, that’s more of a juvenile complaint.
However, don’t give up hope just yet as Ubisoft has announced a number of titles that are currently in development or under consideration. Ubisoft European head Alain Corre has mentioned three titles that are being considered as part of the publisher’s aim of always thinking ahead to new titles.
- You’ll Be Able To Play (Expensive) PS2 Games On Your PS4 Now | 2 months ago
- Jessica Jones Disempowers Its Male Characters And The Effect Is Refreshing | 2 months ago
- Hell Is 30 000 Deathclaws Tearing Through Boston And It’s Glorious | 2 months ago
- Sony Santa Monica Is Teasing Something Truly Strange | 2 months ago
As mentioned in the header, they are Beyond Good & Evil 2, Far Cry 4 and Prince of Persia.
Speaking with Eurogamer, Corre said of Far Cry 4, “We haven’t announced anything yet. We’re thinking of the future of this brand. We don’t know yet when it will emerge. Again, it’s cooking. Something is cooking.”
When asked if it would take long to cook as a new Prince of Persia, Corre added, “No no! No way. We try to put the fire a bit stronger.”
Corre went on to dodge whether a new PoP game is in production and simply said that all the company’s franchises are in constant gestation. Personally the Prince of Persia franchise was stillborn with The Forgotten Sands. He also pointed to Ubisoft’s packed E3 line-up as proof of just how much the publisher has going on right now.
He then added, “It will happen when we feel it is ready, when the creators have brought something interesting. That’s the case for all our franchises. They’re cooking. Some are cooking longer than others, but they’re cooking.”
Finally, the site asked Corre for the status of Beyond Good & Evil 2, to which he replied, “There are some works on it. There are some iterations on it. Now, some games are taking longer to be done, depending also on the creativity the creator can bring. You see the level of quality of the games today is very high. It takes time to find the right angle and message.
“It’s true that the trailer we showed years ago, in the desert with the pig sneezing and flies still resonates very well. These kind of brands are part of Ubisoft’s DNA. It will happen when it will be perfect.”
Personally, far Cry 4 seems like a sure thing. Given the franchise’s popularity there’s no doubt a fourth game will be made. Prince of Persia is in desperate need of a reboot or return to its roots and there are plenty of fans clamouring for more with Assassin’s Creed initially filling the void though that series has also gone stale. BG&E 2 is a quandary, my guess is the game was taken off hiatus and needed to be restarted from the ground up for next-gen.
Of the three I really, really want a new Prince of Persia. I’d do any number of things to make that happen. How about you?
