Oddworld Developer Just Add Water Offers To Remake Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid is my favourite game franchise without a doubt, and within the franchise are what I consider to be some of the best games ever created. A particular love of mine is the original Metal Gear Solid for PlayStation, which was arguably one of the best titles to ever appear on the console.
The topic of a remake of that game has been lurking around for years, and it is something legendary series creator, Hideo Kojima, has actively spoken about over time.

Before getting into today’s story, it might help to add a little bit of context.
Yesterday we reported on a story involving Hideo Kojima revealing that he is looking for studios to remake Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 using the next-gen Fox Engine. It turns out, however, that according to Kojima this report was the result of a mistranslation. Still, the creator revealed that he’s still interested in remaking the original PlayStation classic, just not its sequel.
“Well, if there’s some creator or team in this world who has love and passion to remake “MGS1″, I would love to ask for it,” he said in a tweet.
Now, in response to this tweet, British developer Just Add Water has decided to write an open-letter to Hideo Kojima, offering its services in order to remake Metal Gear Solid.
Respect, Just Add Water, you guys are awesome.
The studio actually has experience in HD remakes, having developed one of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath and Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee. At the moment its next project is Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – New ‘N’ Tasty, which is a remake of the first Oddworld game.
Keep in mind though that Kojima does not simply want to HD upgrade the original Metal Gear Solid, but update its mechanics and develop it using the next-gen Fox Engine, as stated above.
The Just Add Water team posted the letter on its official site, and revealed that its passionate about Metal Gear Solid and capable of doing it justice. See the full letter down below.
Dear Mr Kojima,We read with great excitement on VG247 that you were looking for a studio to work with to develop a Metal Gear Solid remake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating.
We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons:
1) We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.
2) Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.
3) We really, really want to do it.
For evidence of our abilities, please check out not only the HD treatment of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath, released on PlayStation3, VITA and PC, but the current re-creation of Abe’s Oddysee, titled Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.
We eagerly await your response.
Love and cuddles,
The JAW Team.
This is why we love indie developers right? Here’s hoping we get a response from Kojima soon, if at least to show his appreciation or acknowledgement of this great offer from Just Add Water.
