Fantasia: Music Evolved Looks… Interesting
Another exclusive down, as Disney Interactive and Harmonix reveal Fantasia: Music Evolved for Kinect, on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
The video is embedded above, and really, I don’t even know what to make of it. Here’s what the official statement says: “Become the new apprentice of legendary sorcerer Yen Sid, and explore and transform magical worlds by unleashing your musical creativity when Fantasia: Music Evolved releases in 2014.”

What the fuck is this shit, though?
I love Rock Band and I love Dance Central so as far as music and rhythm games goes, I have a lot of faith in their brand, but I don’t really know what it is about Disney that makes everything they touch of late, turn to fail and AIDS. I really was looking forward to something awesome for the rhythm genre with next-gen. Something more along the lines of Rocksmith, trading out plastic controllers for some authenticity and making it fun to rock out with friends in your living room again.
Alas, we get this instead. What actually even is that trailer, really? It looks like a bunch of guys who’ve spent too long playing Epic Mickey, and have begun to believe that their hand movements will alter the flow of the world. Sorry son, that’s not going to save the Starks… (Too soon?!)
Is it a dance game, perhaps? I’m leaning towards that, right now. But then why would they tout Rock Band as their ‘makers of’ lead-in, instead of Dance Central? Is that some red herring to throw everyone from the actual point? Perhaps it’s a musical, interactive sort of game where you play it by dancing or singing along? Perhaps there’s another game planned by someone else which will bring out the revival of the rhythm genre that I so desperately crave? I certainly hope so.
Because right now, I have absolutely no faith in anything that is as much as touched by ‘the Mouse’. But here is that trailer, and announcement, as it stands.
Make of it what you will.
