E3 2013: Watch Dogs Multiplayer Detailed, New Screens Released
Up till now I had actually forgotten that Watch Dogs would have a multiplayer component. That is, until Ubisoft went and revealed some details regarding the multiplayer. It’s tied to the singleplayer in a strange way that will remind you a lot of Dark Souls while the key element of remaining anonymous and striking without warning is reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed multiplayer.
The core mechanic is planting viruses on other player’s phones as they roam around in their singleplayer campaign. While the player is being hacked a percentage bar will appear and this launches you into a mission with the objective being to find the hacker or remain hidden respectively. All before the the bar reaches 100%.

Players will see themselves as protagonist Aiden Pierce while the hacker or target will be seen as a generic in-game character. To be successful, hackers need to remain incognito and avoid detection.
It gets interesting whereby you can also exist as an observer and watch two players play out their little hunt. You could even jump in and assist.
Ubisoft has yet to work out an effective rewards program for successful hacks but players will become more notorious and harder to remain hidden as they rack up more hack infiltrations.
Mercifully you can opt out of the multiplayer and should you choose to leave it on, it won’t interfere with main or side missions.
