Always-On Was Never Considered For PS4
Of late, there’s been much talk about Microsoft’s new Xbox and the possibility of it being always-on but it’s been nothing more than wild rumours and speculation and in fact there are now rumours suggesting the console will function just fine offline.
Sony, not being one to shy away from the opportunity to make their console look good has now come out saying that a persistent internet connection requirement was never considered during the PS4’s development.

“The main reason being that many countries don’t have robust Internet connections,” he explained. “It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust Internet.”
While this is good news and perhaps in-line with Sony’s vision of making PS4 great for gamers and developers alike, Yoshida’s statement is clearly intended to spite Microsoft. However, is he saying this based on the abundant rumours or does he perhaps know something for certain?
